Information: Mr. Fitzwilliam specializes in intellectual property and related commercial matters. More specifically, Mr. Fitzwilliam works in the areas of patent and trademark prosecution, enforcement and litigation of intellectual property, trade secrets, copyrights, due diligence review, and offensive and defensive strategies for development of new products. Additionally, Mr. Fitzwilliam counsels inventors, entrepreneurs, start-up and growing technology firms, non-profits and academic institutions on a variety of economic and legal matters.

Prior to law school, Mr. Fitzwilliam enjoyed a successful naval career qualifying in submarines and serving as the Reactor Controls Division Officer aboard USS BLUEFISH (SSN 675). Mr. Fitzwilliam further made deployments throughout the world; as Officer of the Deck he successfully piloted BLUEFISH to and from various foreign ports. Mr. Fitzwilliam also received special naval training in communications, acoustics, radar, weapons and navigation systems. Mr. Fitzwilliam went on to receive his qualification as Nuclear Power Plant Chief Engineer by the Naval Reactors Division, DOE; and later worked for the Commander Submarine Force U.S. Pacific Fleet (two-star Admiral).

Mr. Fitzwilliam received his Juris Doctorate from The George Mason University School of Law in Arlington Virginia, completing the Intellectual Property Law Specialty Track. Located in proximity to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Fitzwilliam early on developed a specialty practice in claims drafting and getting substantive matter allowed at the USPTO. His patent procurement experience includes such technologies as electrical engineering, electronics, software, business methods, computer network engineering, circuit board design, physics, fiber optic communications, video systems, chemistry, micro-fluidic systems, and fluid dynamics.

Mr. Fitzwilliam received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University in Alabama. Upon graduation he was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy and trained at The Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida. While there he completed graduate level curriculum in theory, design and operation of naval nuclear reactors that included atomic physics, reactor dynamics, electrical and electronics engineering, chemistry, thermodynamics and metallurgy.
